David and Janet welcome you!

Enjoying one of our favorite guest houses
On the way to see the Elephant Conservation Center (see other page) we visited the small provincial town of Lampang, about 100 miles from Chiang Mai.  Here we stayed at the Riverside Guest House, which we had found recommended in our trusty Rough Guide to Thailand.  David kept saying:  "Wow, this is just like the Thailand I knew 40 years ago."  This is a cluster of old wooden houses along the river, with 17 guest rooms and a beautiful garden to boot.  Everything is made of teak.  Our room had a handsome wood carving over the bed and a great balcony overlooking a huge bougainvilla bush with the river just behind.  We stretched out on Thai-style padded mats on the deck and enjoyed some "Beer Chang" before dinner at a nearby restaurant.  Later we slept with the screen door wide open, hearing for hours what must have been hundreds of frogs a-croaking.
