Wat Phu Min in downtown Nan is a 500-year-old temple with some of the most fabulous mural paintings found anywhere today in Southeast Asia. Executed in the late 19th century, these paintings remain as bright as they are lively and fascinating, both with scenes of the Buddha's life but moreso of everyday life at that time in this remote corner of Siam. They depict heaven and hell, local legends, and plenty of details that hold one's attention for hours.
Pretty weird scenes of damnation here...
A royal chariot.
Village life outside the temple.
Fascinating faces; some may be foreigners.
Either courtship or a kidnapping; hard to tell...
French troops, who invaded Nan from Laos in 1893.
A dog, a writer, and a hunter....
Some pretty cool tattoos, eh?
Janet enjoying all the wonderful murals.
