David and Janet welcome you!

The rice harvest is underway all over northern Thailand at this time of year, one of three separate harvest seasons they are able to have annually given the year-long growing season.  We have had lots of fun observing all aspects of the harvest this year.

A famous ancient Thai phrase says"  "Na na mi khao, nai nam mi bla,' which means:  "In the fields there is rice, in the water there are fish."  This is indeed a land of plenty.

Loading up the rice harvest and happy to have their photo taken...
Many fields are full of workers from dawn to dusk. We see them at noon on their lunch break in small huts alongside the roads.
A typical scene of a rice field with lovely green mountains in the background.
The type of impediment we encounter on the narrow roads as we "whiz" along.
As part of the harvest, they build this "boma" and thresh within it.
We see rice drying everywhere, in fields and roadsides and even on the roads in many small villages.
