David and Janet welcome you!

On those days when we are on campus and not traveling, we usually eat our lunch at the Student Center...a massive open room with 10 or 12 food stalls offering delicious items of various kinds....and varying degrees of spicy-ness.  We have learned our favorites in both categories.  If we don't get there before noon, the room is completely full of students and very noisy, though still fun; and some of our top-priority dishes may already be gone.  Costs are so cheap as to be almost unbelievable: about 65 cents for a plate of rice with two kinds of goodies (chicken or pork or fish) on top, plus sometimes a small side soup (no extra charge).  Our bottles of drinking water cost 25 cents (we get one each) and our after-lunch coffee costs 50 cents (we usually share one, since it's pretty sweet and filling).  So for both of us total lunch costs come to $2.30.
Here are a couple of our favorite food stands. The one with the red sign offers delicioius "khao soi" a northern Thai noodle dish.
A typical scene in the food hall. Notice student uniforms.
Janet getting ready to enjoy her lunch. Students are normally too shy to sit with us.
This wonderful couple sells us water daily. He always reminds David not to forget the blue and pink straws (since David forgot once two years ago).
David getting his lunch at the Halal stall, which has great Islam-style "chicken musaman."
David obviously enjoying our sweet, icy "coffe bun" (this means blended in Thai -- they call it a shake.)
