David and Janet welcome you!

We have arrived back in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand, where David is again teaching two courses at the Center for Natural Resources and Environmental Management of Mae Fah Luang University (see www.mfu.ac.th/nremc).  We are living in the same wonderful (if basic) little on-campus house that we had two years ago and, after several days of running around to buy plates and cups and silverware and a "decent/sleepable" mattress, etc., we are now well settled.  The view from our house's front deck is marvelous, across a green valley to a range of high, forested mountains beyond which is Burma/Myanmar, only some 30-40 miles away.  The weather is near-perfect, akin to a great day in the Bay Area:  sunny, mid-80s during the day but as cool as upper 60s in the evening.  We use the air conditioner in the car (to stay free from the traffic's diesel fumes) but have never needed it in the house.  Just opening the windows to let in the breeze is sufficient.  We walk on campus every morning up a steep hill, with steep jungle on all sides; one has the feeling that if the university gardens went on strike for two weeks (fat chance of that!) the jungle would again take over the entire campus.  We are seeing lots of birds and overall having a great time already.

See various web pages that are being set up, and check back from time to time to follow our adventures.  David and Janet
