On December 11 our Center for Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM) at Mae Fah Luang University sponsored a Candlelight Vigil in support of a strong climate change agreement at the Copenhagen conference. This was one of some 2,900 events of this kind worldwide that day, including 8 others in Thailand. Many of our NREM graduate students participated, along with perhaps 150 undergraduate students and several faculty members. The event took place in front of the statue of the King's mother, who was a leader in sustainable environmental action (especially for northern Thailand's hill tribe areas); our university is named in her honor.
