Many ancient temples in addition to the world-reknowned Abu Simbel were to be flooded as the waters of Lake Nasser rose following completion of the Aswan High Dam in the 1970s. Philae Temple is one of them. It was moved to higher ground on an island not too far from the dam itself. We visited in on a small motorboat, finding it striking in its carvings in particular.

We saw women in full burkhas daily, though not many times each day. It was not easy to get a closeup photo, but here David was successful.
